31 JanHelp Desk Software – Why Should You Consider?

Improve IT workflow. Help desk software programs give IT departments the tools they need to track their activities and better manage their workflow.

Uncover recurring problems. Issue tracking software support problems can help you discover recurring issues. Are a few computers taking up hours and days of staff time? It might be worth it to replace those machines. Are staff members taking up hours of your IT department’s time with routine questions about core software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook)? This could point to a need for more training.

Is help desk software freeware an answer?

While there is some freeware help desk software that is quite good, (especially considering the price), even the most dedicated and diligent programmer can only do so much with freeware software. Quite often we have discovered that freeware help desk software is extremely limited. It can only offer the most limited of services, and cannot be customized even the slightest.

Freeware help desk software does cover the basics, so if you’re a small business that’s large enough require a help desk staff of maybe 3 to 5 people, freeware help desk software may do the trick.

Will help desk software help me and my company?

Help desk support software may seem like the perfect solution to all problems relating to customer service, but as with many issues in business, this question is not as simple as it may first appear. In order to determine whether or not your company should invest in IT help desk software, you must first make several more determinations. This process will allow you and your company to determine not only if help desk software is beneficial, but also which services are needed if and when the software is purchased.

First and foremost, the customer base must be fully evaluated to determine whether customer support software would improve or hinder the relationship. Is the clientele young or old? For example, a company that specializes in providing supplies for seniors may have a much more limited application use for help desk software than a company designed to sell model airplanes. Both companies may provide excellent customer service, but one company may lose a portion of the customer base if the help desk support software is too complex for their customers.

30 JanJudging Professional Credit Repair Software

You’ve no doubt heard of professional credit repair software and how easily it can assist in the process of fixing bad credit. That brings up the question of whether using this software will enable the user to fix credit equally as well as a credit repair company. Is it possible that sometime in the future everybody could use this software to fix their own credit, without having to hire an agency?

Disadvantages of Using Professional Credit Repair Software

1. The cost – the first matter to reflect on when considering this credit repair software it its cost. As a rule the software designed for professionals carries a high price tag. In addition there is the investment in time and money – necessary to learn how to use the software. Everything considered, this necessitates a large outlay for most any credit repair business.

2. Can’t be fully customized – computers can process information at lightning speeds, but they do not possess the intelligence that humans do, nor are they, like humans, adaptable. While a human can understand a concept in just a few seconds, even the best credit repair software would require many long hours of careful programming to react in the same way. And even then, to customize the credit software to each case will depend on of the user.

3. Task oriented – your job is credit repair. But credit repair software is more task oriented rather than results oriented. It will fall to you – the professional credit repair agency – to see that the tasks performed by the software are directed toward accomplishment of your goal. The degree to which the outcome is successful depends upon how well you have set up the tasks in the program. Hence, unless you are knowledgeable regarding the credit repair process, the final results may prove disappointing.

What Are the Advantages of Using Professional Credit Repair Software

1. One time payment – even though the software can be costly, in a lot of cases you only pay for it once. Once you’ve bought it, there will be no further payments. When you master the use of the software, it will have become a useful tool for any credit repair business. With practice you will continually improve in using the software, which will pay for itself over time.

2. Simplify your work – as stated before, the credit repair software is task oriented. The result is that it will break your overall procedure of credit report repair into smaller, easier to achieve tasks. And it will also tally which task were completed and which remain to be finished. To state it differently, it is a kind of electronic assistance, and takes care of organization, not to mention speeding up and simplifying the entire process

3. Boosts productivity – making use of the software will help you stay organized and slashes the time needed in follow-up, thereby improving your efficiency. When this happens it becomes possible for you to take on more customers and resolve each case better and faster. Therefore you can complete more tasks over a given time period, which in turn means more money in the bank!

To sum up professional credit repair software has its advantages and disadvantages. Whether you choose to use it is a matter of comparing the advantages and disadvantages and determining whether it’s a wise choice for your agency.

29 JanThe Web Design Process Unravelled: A Client Perspective

Introduction

When I decided I needed a website for my business I had no idea of the very many processes involved. Like most people, I thought web design meant deciding on the graphics and the look of the pages and then by some magic it would all happen.
I have a friend who is in the business of web design and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) so I approached him for a quote. As a complete novice who is computer literate up to a point, I was amazed at the depth of initial questioning required to find out exactly what I wanted to achieve.

I had no idea about the various aspects and the structure of the site and I found it mind blowing when I learned about the amount of work involved. So I thought other people would be interested to know more about this complicated process and I have asked my friend to supply the technical information for this article.

Stages in the Process

Target Audience

Before building a website there are important questions to consider. I was asked who would be my target audience. Who are my customers likely to be? Would they be children, businesses, home owners, sales people, parents or teenagers and so on?

The objective of the website

Then I was asked, what was the purpose of my website? Did I want to sell services on line or use it to market my business and get more leads for possible customers? Maybe I would want to use it as an online brochure to showcase products. Another possibility was to use the website to foster a community so that I was in contact with other like-minded people, with chat rooms, online discussion and being supported by advertising on the site.

I hadn’t quite realised the scope of a website but as I was asked these questions it became clear that a lot of careful planning went into the preparation before building a website.

How to be Found on the Web

One of the first questions I was asked was, ‘Do you want it to be found by Google the main search engine?’ If I did then there was a whole process of establishing Keywords. So finding the best keywords are vital if you want to be found in Google. Generally most users only look at the top ten results so you will also want to promote your website to get on this page for your chosen keywords. By using a keyword research tool you can find the single most popular keyword for your industry.

Your Domain Name

Choosing a domain name is often quite a problem because every name you initially come up with will almost certainly have been taken. Domain names ending in .com are by far the most popular and internationally recognised; the snag is that it’s very popularity means that the majority of the shorter names have already been registered.
So looking at names with endings such as .net; .co.uk or .info may be able to provide you with the domain name you are after.

We were fortunate with our latest damp proof coarse domain because we had great advice about registering it in a timely fashion and we managed to find one with the text damp proof coarse as part of it, which also happens to link to part of our business. When choosing your domain name it is very important to include one or more of your keywords if possible as this can apparently help with search engine rankings. So although the name of your business is the obvious choice for a domain name, it is not necessarily the only option.

Creating a Site Map

As with any project you must have a plan, the better the plan the better the project turns out. A site map for a web site is part of the plan for the site. The importance of creating a site map is to get it clear in your mind of all the pages you will have on your website so you can prepare the content for each page and begin to design the flow through the website, such as when a user adds a product to their basket, then enters their delivery and billing address and makes the credit card payment in the correct order.

The aim is to make the site as user friendly as possible so that there are no barriers to getting into the website. For that reason often user name and passwordz are set for the customer so that they are not put off making a purchase by having to register.
For a non e-commerce site things are simpler with a contact form which allows you to receive enquiries by email without publishing your email address on the website, thus avoiding spam.Web forms can also validate the information before you receive it, so ensuring that the phone number provided does not contain words, and that the email address is in the correct format, for example. These things may sound very technical to us lay-folk but I assure you everything has to be decided on before starting on the construction of the site.

Copy

The next stage is preparing the copy. This is not the design of your website – just the words and visuals you want to have one each of the pages.Having gathered all the above information you will need to decide what imagery you want to use within the website content. As we all know, a picture speaks a thousand words and remains in people’s memory far longer than just words. For each image you could also have a caption, as the caption of an image is the next ‘most read’ words on the page after the page title. Images and their captions need to be clickable. When you click on a picture it should take you to the next stage of the process such as the sale page or placing an enquiry if your website is for lead generation.

Navigation

Another important aspect when building a website is how you want your navigation to work. You can have links within the content of your website, in the text, so there are not just links from the menu. You will need to decide whether the links will open into a new window, retaining your original page open. Next time you go online, you will realise how much thought has gone into the way in which a website works.

Website Design

Finally we come to the design of your website. According to my guaranteed SEO contact the design stage is the most difficult because everyone has different tastes.

What one person might like, another person might not like. If you are setting up a website for yourself alone then you will probably have some idea of what you want to see on the site. But if, as so often happens, the website is for a large corporation there will be inputs from many people or departments and you can be sure that they will never all agree!

There are a number of ways to approach website design but ultimately you need to create a design brief for the designer(s) to work from. Look at other websites and your competitor’s websites to find out what you like or dislike. The design brief should give reference to the logo, any existing brand guidelines or schemes and fonts and colour schemes, and should also detail which pages of the website that the designer is being tasked with creating visuals for.

The very best results will be achieved by using a graphic designer, and beware – not all graphic designers are the same. A graphic designer who designs specifically for print is working in a different discipline than a graphic designer who designs for screen and specifically the web. So choose your designer carefully, look at other work that person has done and determine whether or not you like their style.

If you are working in the big time and budget allows, use multiple graphic designers who have all been given the same design brief and request three concept designs from each designer. If the client themselves also do a graphic design, even if it’s a back of the envelope scribble, you will then have 10 concept designs. The next step is to get them all together and select the preferred elements from each design. Then give the work to the selected graphic designer to work up as the final artwork.

The artwork should be finalised and agreed on by everybody before construction of the site begins.

Production

Finally the preparation has been done and the site is ready to be constructed. Now for the more technical stuff! You will need to have decided which programming language to use to build the website. There are two main types for developing a website, one is Unix based, and the other is Windows based. Each one has pros and cons. If you are starting from scratch then it probably won’t matter, so you can go with the preference of your professional doing the work. My website is built on the Unix platform (apparently!) which is the same as many of the more well known websites such as Ebay, Facebook, Google and Amazon. Also your website hosting must be compatible with the development language with which your website is built.

Accessibility and Compliance

The website has to meet the current standards for website coding and doing so insures that disabled users, such as the visually impaired, can still access the entire website if they are using a screen reader.

Website Development

The best way to develop a website is on the web Server where the site is going to live. This way, those involved in reviewing the work can see work in progress and provide feedback throughout the development.

Unforeseen items

There are always some things that arise in any project which you suddenly realise you have forgotten, so no matter how well the website designer prepares and asks the right questions, there will always be a last minute change or addition. The main aim is to minimise the number of glitches that might arise because they aren’t calculated in and they could cause extra costs and delays on the date of the website going live.

Going live

The moment of excitement comes when your site finally is published to the internet and you see the results of all the thought that has gone into the whole process. I spent many hours working with the web agency to get our 4 star hotels in Brighton website site just right for our company before taking it live, and when the day came to publish it I was really pleased at all our hard work.

Reporting and Monitoring

Once your website is up and running, you might like to know how many people visit your website and from that number how many actually buy the products or place an enquiry. From these statistics you can work out the ratio of hits to sales and gradually make changes to improve the ratios. There are some reliable statistics packages such as Google Analytics or Web-Stat.com which allow you to collect and review website visitor data in near real time. All you need to do this is to have a small block of code inserted into each web page on your site.

Another useful service that Web-stat.com provides is to monitor the website and warn you by email or text message if the site is not reachable. Google Analytics doesn’t yet provide a comparable uptime monitoring service, maybe they just decided it was too much of a headache as it is an intensive service checking a website every 5 minutes to make sure it is still responding and indeed web-stat do promote this difference as one of their unique selling points but it is pretty hard to compete with free. In fact Google Analytics is not quite free, which makes it an even better marketing decision for Google because sometimes it is harder to give things away for free than it is to sell them! Google Analytics is a free service available to Google AdWords advertisers, you don’t actually have to have any AdWords campaigns running but it will cost you a one-time activation fee of £5 (or similar in your local currency) to open your AdWords account, but once you have done that you can go on to use Google Analytics for as many websites as you like.

Marketing

Once the website is live there are lots of things you can do to market your product or service. The first step is to submit it to the search engines and at the same time write articles, and press releases. Getting links to the site from forums, blogs and other social networking spaces are other options. For more on this subject ask your designer about SEO

Conclusion

Wheww. What an amazing amount of work! I hadn’t realised when I started the process of getting a website up and running, how complicated it all is and how many factors you have to consider before even designing the website. The word web design is really a misnomer, as people often think it’s just about the graphic design on the home page, and the branding of the product. Unless you are a computer buff, most people have no idea how much goes into designing and building a website and the systems that support the work you want it to do. I hope that this article will give readers an understanding and insight into the whole process of website development from start to finish.

29 JanMake Your Website Standout With a Favicon

The favicon is a tiny image that replaces the typical browser link image with a recognisable icon that signifies your branded website. Although the favicon isn’t a requirement for website design, it makes it easy for visitors to find your link in their bookmarked websites. Imagine viewing a list of bookmarked websites that all have the same link image, but one stands out – your website link – because it contains a customised icon that reminds users of your product. If you’re thinking of a creative way to market a product, a favicon is a simple addition that drives more traffic.

The Image

The favicon has specific dimensions, colours, and file format. The image is tiny, so developing its layout takes a few tests to ensure that it looks visibly distinct in the browser bookmarks. You won’t be able to do high quality images like you do for website pages. The icon format is only 16×16 pixels, so its size limits the amount of detail and quality.

The file type and colour capabilities of a favicon are 256 colours saved as a gif or bmp file. People who developed websites in the 1990s probably recognise the old colour scheme, and favicon limitations are similar to old web graphics. Regardless of the limitations, there is a surprising amount of options when creating the file. For instance, a common use for the favicon image is to use the corporate logo. Logos are usually simple and distinct, so using it as a tag for bookmarked links is an ideal way for your website to stand out.

After you’ve created the image, the next step is converting it to the icon file format. There are several tools used to convert saved gif and bmp images to icon files. AWIconsPro, Easy Icon Maker, EasyApps Icon, and GoldIcon are all good programs available on the Internet to create favicons.

Publish the Icon

After you’ve created the icon, it needs to be published on your website. Many webmasters save the file to the root directory, but the file needs to be saved in the location of the bookmarked link. If you persuade users to bookmark a webpage in a separate directory from the home page, then the icon needs to be saved in that additional directory. For instance, if you decide to convince your readers to bookmark a page named “yourdomain.com/myfavorites/index.htm,” then upload the favicon to the “yourdomain.com/myfavorites” directory. The advantage to this requirement is that you can have several icons with product brands dedicated to different directories. It’s also important to know that the file needs to be saved with the name “favicon.ico.” This file name and format tells the web browser that this is used as an icon for bookmark images. Wherever you save the image, take note of its location, because it’s needed for configuration of the web application.

Edit Web Page Code

The next step is editing the HTML code in your web page. Open your home page file. Most home pages are named index.html or index.aspx. Open this page in your favorite HTML editor. There is only one line of code needed, so you can even open the file in Notepad and add the code quickly. To add the new icon link, find the code that is located in the beginning of the file marked with the “” tag. This is normally found under the “” tag or close to it. Within this tag, place the following code into your web page:

/favicon.ico” type=”image/x-icon”>

This is the standard code for inclusion of the favicon file. Replace “” with the domain name and directory of the favicon saved earlier. After you add the code to the web page, save the file to your website.

Advantages of a Favicon

The ultimate advantage of a favicon is your brand on the customer’s computer with better opportunities for sales. When a customer has a good experience on your website, a favicon reminds them of the experience. It also spreads your brand name as a familiar logo on desktops. The favicon is the basic way to brand your website with little effort.

Branding your website can cost a lot of money in marketing and resources. A favicon is a simple, inexpensive way to give a logo and an image to your corporate website. The Internet is filled with billions of websites, so standing out is a difficult part of marketing. This little addition to a corporate website gives it a little more recognition over all the others.

iPod Response 3rd Generation Review

When Apple released the original iPod Be up against abandon in 2007, I don’t think even they knew what it would become. If you want to not treat seriously c mess with multi-player games with other people close to being to you via bluetooth, this requires the ipod touch 2nd generation or later.

When I decided to upgrade my underived iPod Renovate after the newer times, I proverb a definite improvement to my jail-broken OS using iPhone 3.0 (screenshot pictured to the right). It is critical to understand where and under what circumstances the Noni was grown, how and when it was harvested, how the fruit is treated, and what process is used to convert the fruit to a juice.

All effort must be made to keep intact the most beneficial ingredients in the Noni fruit and to make certain that the consumer is receiving the most effective Noni product on the market. Consider up to date research results on processing Noni fruit.

27 JanA Few Thoughts on Gardening

There’s nothing more money saving than growing your own vegetables and cooking from scratch.  You get a little exercise whilst you’re tending your garden, then get to eat all the goodies you’ve grown, plus you save a whole load of money as well.  However, if you’re the gardener, it’s important to look after yourself and to make sure that you don’t overdo the digging.  Take small spits of soil with the spade, straighten up frequently, try not to bend your spine and don’t dig for more than 20 minutes at a time.  Once you’ve done all the hard work, treat yourself to something simple as a reward, maybe put your feet up and read a good book, or have a soak in the bath.

Whenever I’m in the garden, or out in the countryside, my little Jack Russell tags along for the ride.  He’s not much use at cultivating the garden, but he does like to dig – great big holes where I don’t want them, so I quite often have to distract him with toys if I don’t want my efforts to be ruined.  However, he has his uses.  He’s always on pest control regarding the rats that come down from the Moor looking for a nice warm compost heap to hide in.  He sees them off pretty quickly.

This time of year there’s not too much going on in the garden, especially with dark evenings and wet days, but it’s a good time to plan ahead for next year’s planting.  There should be plenty of green vegetables to harvest still, as all the brassicas will last in the ground over winter, such as brussels sprouts, kale, cabbage and the like. I tend to harvest them when they’re young and tender, as I prefer this to trying to chew my way through fibrous, bitter greens.  The winter months are also a good time to burn rubbish and have a general tidy up, getting rid of any dead, diseased prunings.  Other than that, it’s back to sitting by the fire with a good gardening book – happy gardening!
